Garden District

These are homes in the Garden District

These Historic homes were created in Italianate, Greek Revival, and Victorian styles.
Originally laid out in 1832 by Barthelemy Lafron. It started off as a plantation and was sold into lots between the 1840's and 1870's.
It is known for the garden district because the soil it was built on made it easy for the plants and flowers to grow resulting in beautiful gardens.
Was made after the Louisiana Purchase for new wealthier Americans who didn’t want to associate with people of European descent.
The main boundaries for the Garden District is St. Charles Ave. to magazine Street and from Jackson Avenue to Louisiana Avenue.
It is popular for the mansions and beautiful gardens and overall known for elegance.
It is still one known as one of if not the most prestigious neighborhoods in New Orleans
